You squeze through the opening and find yourself in a small alcove. There is a plaque here which you read, it says:

		This Major Oak of Sherwood Forest
		has lived since the reign of King
		John. It boughs have hidden Robin
		Hood's men and its head of leaves
		shades an area of 80 square yards.
